Why One Single Story?

We believe that the Bible is one single story from beginning to end. It is the story of Jesus Christ: why we need Him, that He was coming, came, died, rose again, ascended to heaven, and today lives with us.

What is One Single Story?

One Single Story began in 2022 with Open Door Church reading the Bible chronologically together in one year. In 2023 we continued to learn more about the Bible by going through one book at a time, looking at a theme that is present in that book.

We release a podcast Monday - Friday supporting a section of the day’s reading. The podcasts will be available on all platforms to listen to or download. They are also available on YouTube.

We are currently using the Tyndale One Year Bible plan and choose a section of the day’s reading to discuss. Every day of the Bible reading plan includes and an Old Testament passage, a New Testament passage, Psalm and Proverb.

The plan is available through the YouVersion app. You can purchase a copy of the One Year Bible at Edenton’s local Christian Book Seller or wherever you buy books. Digital versions are available for purchase and download on Kindle or download a printable the reading plan here.

Pastor Stephen Mizell, lead pastor of Open Door Church in Edenton, North Carolina, hosts the podcast and leads the discussion. Pastor Jay Rivenbark, campus pastor at the Bertie Campus of Open Door Church in Windsor in joins him every week.

As you join in, we encourage you to download the reading plan and start with that day’s reading.

We look forward to being a part of your life. We look forward to diving deeper into the One Single Story that the Bible provides.
